Tonight the Board of the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) moved to table the resolution to move the Urban Containment Boundary to coincide with the town boundary of Qualicum Beach. It was tabled to allow the staff of the RDN to seek a legal opinion whether the motion could be considered a minor amendment which can be passed with a simple motion or should go through the full process of a Urban Containment Boundary amendment.

The Regional District of Nanaimo meets tonight to decide about Qualicum Beach's request to have the Urban Growth Boundary be the same as the town boundary. We feel that there was insufficient public consultation from the town for a major change to our Official Community Plan and have said so on every possible occasion. Whether you are in favour of a change or not, the process should be public, well advertised and complete. Then, after listening carefully to public input, our elected officials should make a decision as they were elected to do. Check out the presentation by Bruce Fleming-Smith on the front page.
The meeting takes place at the offices of the RDN at 6300 Hammond Bay Rd, Nanaimo at 7:00 tonight. |
